I am into all things Viking. L’Anse aux Meadows, located at the northern tip of Newfoundland is one of the strangest, most fantastic places I’ve ever seen.
In 1000 A.D. Leif Eriksson came ashore there and founded the settlement that came to represent the gateway to the mythical Viking New World: Vinland. The Vikings ended up having serious difficulties with the local natives, though, and then Leif’s sister went and had her men murder about forty of her fellow Vikings. She supposedly hacked the women to death all by herself. Now you can travel there and wander around this surreal, reconstructed site and walk where Leif walked and where a whole lot of Viking blood was spilled.
